Safari Itinerary
Pick-Up, Transfer and Flying to Mikumi
An early morning around 5 a.m., our driver will pick you from your hotel in Zanzibar, where a driver will transfer you to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ). After checking in, you will board a domestic flight to Mikumi National Park, typically departing around 7:00 a.m.. The flight is short, lasting approximately one hour, providing scenic views of Tanzania's landscape as you travel from the coast to the mainland. Upon landing at the Mikumi Airstrip around 8:00 a.m., you will be met by a professional safari guide who will brief you and others on the day's adventure.
Mikumi - Game drive and lunch
Once you've met your guide, you will immediately begin your game drive in a custom-built 4x4 safari vehicle. The journey takes you into the heart of Mikumi National Park, exploring the vast landscapes of the Mkata Floodplain. This area is known for its high concentration of wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest. You will spend the morning spotting a wide variety of animals and taking in the incredible scenery. Around mid-day, you will stop for a hot bush lunch at a scenic picnic site inside the park, where you can enjoy your meal with a view of the wilderness.
Departure from Mikumi
After lunch, you will continue with an afternoon game drive, exploring different parts of the park to maximize your wildlife viewing opportunities. This portion of the safari may include a visit to the hippo pools, home to large numbers of hippos and other aquatic wildlife. In the late afternoon, around 3:30 - 4:00 p.m., your guide will drive you back to the Mikumi Airstrip. You will board your flight for the return trip to Zanzibar, typically departing around 4:00 p.m. and arriving back on the island in the early evening.
Return to your hotel in Zanzibar
Upon your arrival back at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) in Zanzibar, our driver will be waiting for you. The driver will provide a comfortable transfer back to your hotel, concluding your exhilarating 1-day safari adventure from the coast to the bush.
