Mikumi National Park
Mikumi National Park, located in southern Tanzania, is known for its vast savannas, abundant wildlife, and convenient accessibility from Dar es Salaam. Covering around 3,230 square kilometers (1,250 square miles), it is part of the larger Selous ecosystem and offers a fantastic, less-crowded safari experience. With open landscapes similar to the Serengeti, Mikumi is sometimes referred to as a “Serengeti Miniature.”
Dry and Wet Seasons
-
Dry Season (June to October): Wildlife is more concentrated around water sources during the dry season, making animal sightings easier and more frequent. The park’s vegetation thins out, providing unobstructed views of large mammals such as elephants, giraffes, and lions.
-
Wet Season (November to May): The park becomes lush and green, attracting migratory birds and providing beautiful scenery. Though some areas may be more challenging to navigate, the wet season is excellent for birdwatching, and the landscape becomes a vibrant, photogenic setting.
