Overview:

Embark on a thrilling 7-day trek via Kilimanjaro's Umbwe route, known for its steep ridges and challenging ascent. This adventure leads you through diverse landscapes, including the iconic Barranco Wall, culminating in a sunrise summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. This challenging journey offers breathtaking views and unforgettable memories.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to your hotel in Moshi, and meet with your trekking guide for a briefing and gear check. Spend the night preparing for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp

Transfer from Moshi to Umbwe Gate (1-2 hours), where you'll begin your trek through dense forest. Ascend steeply along a ridge to reach Umbwe Camp (2,943 meters) after approximately 5-6 hours of hiking.

Day 3: Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp

Depart from Umbwe Camp after breakfast, trekking through the moorland to reach Barranco Valley. Ascend the challenging but exhilarating Barranco Wall and arrive at Barranco Camp (3,976 meters) for overnight camping. The day's trek takes about 6-7 hours.

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Start the day with a descent into the Great Barranco, followed by an ascent through the Karanga Valley. Enjoy stunning views of the southern glacier and the Breach Wall before arriving at Karanga Camp (3,995 meters) after approximately 4-5 hours of hiking.

  • Accommodation: Karanga Camp

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Trek from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp, which serves as the base camp for your summit attempt. Ascend through the alpine desert terrain and arrive at Barafu Camp (4,673 meters) in the afternoon. Spend the rest of the day resting, hydrating, and preparing for the summit push. The hike takes around 3-4 hours.

Day 6: Summit Day and Descent to Mweka Camp

Begin the summit attempt around midnight, ascending steeply to Stella Point (5,685 meters) before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement at the summit, then descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest and lunch. Continue descending to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters) for overnight camping. The total hiking time for the day is approximately 11-15 hours.

Day 7: Descend to Mweka Gate and Departure

Descend from Mweka Camp through the forest to Mweka Gate, where you'll complete park formalities and receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved rest and celebration. Depart from Kilimanjaro International Airport or continue with your onward travel arrangements.

Payment Terms​

Deposit Payment
  • Deposit is 20% of the total booking amount.

  • Deposit can be paid either via a bank transfer or an online card payment.

  • A 5% fee is applicable on all card payments (payment gateway charges), this is non-refundable.

  • We offer bank accounts in 10 different currencies for bank transfer.

  • Once you make the advance payment you will receive a booking confirmation.

Balance Payment
  • Balance can be paid via bank transfer, online card payment, or with cash.

  • Bank payment can be done 15 days prior to the tour date (recommended 30 days prior).

  • Card Payment can be done 1 day prior to the tour date (recommended 7 days prior).

  • A 5% fee is applicable on all card payments (payment gateway charge), this is non-refundable.

  • Cash can be paid on arrival (USD printed in or after the year 2009).

Cancellation Policy

8 days and above departure
  • No cancellation fees.

0 to 7 days before departure
  • 50% of the total tour price will be charged as cancellation fees.

  • Trek can be postponed to any new date without any extra cost at any point in time.

  • The 5% surcharge paid for either or both advance and balance payments is non-refundable in case of cancellation of the trek.

Supplements

  • Solo Supplement = USD 30
    Charged for solo trekkers throughout the year.

  • Off-season supplement = USD 90
    Charged for solo trekkers looking to start a new departure in March, April, May, and November. Does not apply if you join an existing group. Does not apply if other trekkers also join your new group.
