The Momella Route on Mount Meru offers an exhilarating trekking experience, combining diverse ecosystems, wildlife encounters, and breathtaking views. This four-day itinerary condenses the adventure, taking you from the lush forests at the base to the summit of Socialist Peak, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty and unique landscapes along the way.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kilimanjaro Airport - Moshi

​

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Arusha. Spend the evening attending a pre-climb briefing with your trekking team, where you’ll go over the route details and perform a final gear check, ensuring you’re ready for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Arusha to Momella Gate – Trek to Miriakamba Hut

​

Begin your journey with a drive from Arusha to Momella Gate, the starting point of your trek. After completing the necessary park formalities, embark on your trek through lush montane forests and open grasslands, home to various wildlife such as giraffes and colobus monkeys. The trail leads you steadily upward to Miriakamba Hut, where you’ll settle in for the evening.

Day 3: Miriakamba Hut - Saddle Hut

​

Continue your ascent, trekking through montane forests and transitioning into the heathland zone. Along the way, enjoy the sight of Maio Falls and expansive views of the Meru Crater and Ash Cone. Arrive at Saddle Hut, located at a higher altitude, where you’ll have time to rest and acclimatize for the upcoming summit attempt.

Day 4: Summit Day (Socialist Peak) – Descend to Momella Gate and Return to Arusha

​

Begin your summit attempt around midnight, navigating the rocky terrain under a starlit sky. Reach Socialist Peak by sunrise, where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views, including glimpses of Mount Kilimanjaro. After celebrating your achievement, descend back through Saddle Hut and Miriakamba Hut, eventually reaching Momella Gate. Complete the park formalities and receive your summit certificate before returning to Arusha for a well-deserved rest.

Payment Terms​

Deposit Payment

• Deposit is 20% of the total booking amount.

• Deposit can be paid either via a bank transfer or an online card payment.

• A 5% fee is applicable on all card payments (payment gateway charges), this is non-refundable.

• We offer bank accounts in 10 different currencies for bank transfer.

• Once you make the advance payment you will receive a booking confirmation.

Balance Payment

• Balance can be paid via bank transfer, online card payment, or with cash.

• Bank payment can be done 15 days prior to the tour date (recommended 30 days prior).

• Card Payment can be done 1 day prior to the tour date (recommended 7 days prior).

• A 5% fee is applicable on all card payments (payment gateway charge), this is non-refundable.

• Cash can be paid on arrival (USD printed in or after the year 2009).

Cancellation Policy​

8 days and above departure

• No cancellation fees.

​

0 to 7 days before departure

• 50% of the total tour price will be charged as cancellation fees.

• Trek can be postponed to any new date without any extra cost at any point in time.

• The 5% surcharge paid for either or both advance and balance payments is non-refundable in case of cancellation of the trek.

Supplements

• Solo Supplement = USD 30
  Charged for solo trekkers throughout the year.

• Off-season supplement = USD 90
  Charged for solo trekkers looking to start a new departure in March, April, May, and November. Does not apply if you join an existing group. Does not apply if other trekkers also join your new group.
