8 Days Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro Via Lemosho Route.

The Lemosho route is one of the scenic routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It's known for its stunning views and relatively low traffic compared to some of the other routes. Here's a itinerary for the Lemosho route, typically spanning 8 days:


Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport

  • Transfer to hotel in Moshi

  • Briefing with your trekking company

Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa)

  • Drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate (2-3 hours)

  • Complete park formalities at the gate

  • Drive to the Lemosho trailhead

  • Begin trekking through rainforest

  • Reach Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa) at around 2,780 meters

  • Trekking time: 3-4 hours

Day 3: Big Tree Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Continue trekking through the rainforest

  • Gradually ascend towards the Shira Plateau

  • Reach Shira 1 Camp at around 3,500 meters

  • Trekking time: 5-6 hours

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

  • Trek across the Shira Plateau

  • Enjoy expansive views of Kilimanjaro and its surroundings

  • Ascend to Shira 2 Camp at around 3,850 meters

  • Trekking time: 4-5 hours

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

  • Trek across rocky terrain and alpine desert

  • Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600 meters) for acclimatization

  • Descend to Barranco Camp at around 3,950 meters

  • Trekking time: 6-7 hours

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Climb the Barranco Wall, a challenging but exhilarating ascent

  • Trek through valleys and ridges, passing Karanga Camp without staying

  • Reach Barafu Camp at around 4,673 meters

  • Trekking time: 7-8 hours

Day 7: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka Camp

  • Begin summit attempt around midnight

  • Trek through steep and challenging terrain

  • Reach Stella Point (5,685 meters) at the crater rim

  • Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa

  • Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest

  • Continue descent to Mweka Camp at around 3,100 meters

  • Trekking time: 11-15 hours

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Descend through rainforest

  • Reach Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificates

  • Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha

  • Celebrate your achievement with a well-deserved meal and rest

  • Trekking time: 3-4 hours

  • Depart from Tanzania or continue with further travel plans
