7 Days Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro Via Machame Route.

The Machame route is another popular trekking route on Mount Kilimanjaro, known for its scenic beauty and relatively high success rate. Here's a sample itinerary for the Machame route, typically spanning 7 days:


Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

  • Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport

  • Transfer to hotel in Moshi

  • Attend a pre-climb briefing with your trekking company

  • Final gear check and preparation

Day 2: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

  • Drive from Moshi to Machame Gate (1-2 hours)

  • Complete park formalities at the gate

  • Begin trekking through the rainforest

  • Ascend through dense vegetation

  • Reach Machame Camp at around 3,000 meters

  • Trekking time: 5-7 hours

Day 3: Machame Camp to Shira Camp

  • Continue trekking through the thinning rainforest

  • Enter the moorland zone with unique plant life

  • Ascend through rocky ridges and valleys

  • Reach Shira Camp at around 3,840 meters

  • Trekking time: 4-6 hours

Day 4: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

  • Trek across the Shira Plateau with expansive views of the surroundings

  • Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600 meters) for acclimatization

  • Descend to Barranco Camp via the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb

  • Reach Barranco Camp at around 3,950 meters

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Continue trekking through alpine desert terrain

  • Traverse the Karanga Valley

  • Ascend to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit

  • Rest and prepare for the summit attempt

  • Hydrate and eat a hearty meal

  • Trekking time: 7-9 hours

Day 6: Summit Day - Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Mweka Camp

  • Begin summit attempt around midnight

  • Trek through steep and challenging terrain

  • Reach Stella Point (5,685 meters) at the crater rim

  • Continue to Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters), the highest point in Africa

  • Descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest

  • Continue descent to Mweka Camp at around 3,100 meters

  • Trekking time: 11-15 hours

Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Descend through rainforest

  • Reach Mweka Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificates

  • Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha

  • Celebrate your achievement with a well-deserved meal and rest

  • Trekking time: 3-4 hours

  • Depart from Tanzania or continue with further travel plans
