6 Days Trekking Mount Kilimanjaro Via Marangu Route.

The Marangu route, often dubbed the "Coca-Cola" route due to its popularity and relatively comfortable accommodations, is one of the shorter routes up Mount Kilimanjaro. Here's a itinerary for the Marangu route, typically completed in 6 days:

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

  • Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport

  • Transfer: To hotel in Moshi

  • Activities: Pre-climb briefing, final gear check, and preparation

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

  • Drive: Moshi to Marangu Gate (1-2 hours)

  • Activities: Complete park formalities, begin trekking through dense rainforest

  • Accommodation: Mandara Hut (2,700 meters)

  • Trekking Time: 3-4 hours

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut

  • Trek: Through thinning rainforest into moorland zone with unique plant life

  • Accommodation: Horombo Hut (3,720 meters)

  • Views: Panoramic views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks

  • Trekking Time: 5-7 hours

Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

  • Trek: Through alpine desert terrain, cross the "Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks

  • Accommodation: Kibo Hut (4,700 meters)

  • Preparation: Rest, hydrate, and eat a hearty meal for summit attempt

  • Trekking Time: 6-8 hours

Day 5: Summit Day - Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak, then descend to Horombo Hut

  • Summit Attempt: Begin around midnight, trek through challenging terrain including Gilman's Point (5,681 meters)

  • Summit: Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) at sunrise

  • Descend: Back to Kibo Hut for rest and breakfast, then continue to Horombo Hut

  • Trekking Time: 11-15 hours

Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate

  • Descend: Through rainforest to Marangu Gate

  • Celebration: Receive summit certificates, transfer back to Moshi/Arusha, enjoy a well-deserved meal

  • Trekking Time: 5-6 hours

  • Departure: Depart Tanzania or continue with further travel plans
